PROJECT CHANGE SUMMER LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
For Rising Eighth and Ninth Graders
July 20-24, 2009


PROJECT CHANGE announces its first, annual Summer Leadership Institute for Rising Eighth and Ninth graders who will be attending middle and high schools in the Olney area.
In this interactive, fun, evening program, participants will have the opportunity to participate in:

  • Personal goal-setting and self-assessment
  • Leadership skills development
  • Project identification and planning of community service activities

The Institute will be held from July 20-24 (6-9pm) at Sandy Spring Friends School (16923 Norwood Road Sandy Spring, MD).

Through participation in this program, youth will:

  • Meet rising 8th and 9th graders from Olney area middle and high schools
  • Be introduced to Project Change and its programs (Community Service Network, You Have the Power! and Youth Empowered Services Network)
  • Learn the value of high-quality service opportunities Develop competencies in program planning
  • Understand the value of participating in volunteer activities, both personally and for the benefit of the Olney-area community
  • Develop leadership skills necessary for successful, meaningful participation in high school and community service activities
  • Identify potential volunteer opportunities in personal areas of interest
  • Have the opportunity to take on leadership roles in Project Change activities Students will also earn 15 service-learning (SSL) hours.

The Institute will be led by PC volunteers and staff, including current PC student members and alumni, and content experts in youth development, safety, and leadership.

Applications are currently being accepted and are due by no later than July 15, 2009. The cost of the Institute is $40 and some limited, need-based scholarships will be available.
